RM HVTEC Install

How To Degree H22X HVTEC cams:

TRADITIONAL METHOD

1. Lock VTEC
2. Adjust valve-lash to zero (measure between valvetip and tappet screw).
3. Find approximate TDC (using indicator or visually) and set degree wheel.
4. Find exact TDC by using a piston stop.  TDC will be the exact middle of the where the piston stops at BTDC and ATDC. Then adjust wheel pointer accordingly.

VTEC INTAKE EVENTS AT 0.050″:
102 LC
OPEN 28 BTDC; CLOSE 52 ABDC

VTEC EXHAUST EVENTS AT 0.050″:
110 LC
OPEN 60 BBDC; CLOSE 20 ATDC

LIFT AT TDC METHOD

1. With Zero Lash and at TDC and VTEC NOT locked

Valves should be off the seat

1.5mm for Intake;
1.1mm for Ehxaust.

For VTEC lobe centers to be at 102 Intake and 110 Exhaust.

RECOMMEND VALVE LASH

0.007″ for Intake;
0.009″ for Exhaust.

!!TIMING-BELT ADVISORY!!

Installing hi-performance camshafts requires more care and attention than installing stock camshafts.  There are two reasons:
(1) most hi-performance camshafts are installed into cylinderheads with stiffer springs;
(2) some hi-performance camshafts have larger primary lobes.

The combination of stiffer springs and larger primaries makes installing the timing belt correctly extremely difficult, especially performed by one person.

YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE (1) THE CAM GEAR MARKS LINE UP AND (2) ALL BELT SLACK IS REMOVED FOR FRONT SIDE, TOP SIDE, BACKSIDE ABOVE THE WATER PUMP, AND BACKSIDE BELOW THE TENSION.

Any slack, in any one of these places will result in a dangerously loos timing belt.
